ISTD Dance Teacher Training, Southampton
RDC provide a complete education in the teaching of dance for those aged 17+
that want to teach and not perform, and have spaces for a September 2024 Start.
We offer the ISTD Level 4 DDE in Classical Ballet, Modern Theatre and Tap Dance, as well as Intermediate, Advanced 1 and 2 Exams too.
About the course
The Level 4 DDE is an Ofqual regulated teaching qualification, which provides an excellent introduction to a career in teaching dance. It offers student teachers a clear pathway to become a qualified dance teacher with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing and allows the opportunity to engage with up-to-date research in best practice related to dance teaching and learning.
The qualification is regulated at Level 4 on the Regulated Qualifications Framework and has a credit value of 120.
The Course comprises 5 units, and all have to be completed to be awarded the full DDE qualification.
You can start the course at 17 years old. There is no upper age limit.

Entry Requirements
Entry to ISTD Dance Teacher Training Requires the following:
Student teachers need to be 17 years of age in the academic year of DDE enrolment and 18 years of age to undertake the DDE qualification

Tuition Fees
Fees will be entirely dependent on the student teachers prior knowledge and experience.
Tuition fees are broken down into easy to manage monthly direct debits.
Exam Fees
Exam fees will be invoiced in advance, again with the option of splitting it into easy to manage instalments.

How much does it cost?
The course is tailored to you as an individual, so the cost would be entirely dependent on how much prior knowledge you have and how quickly you progress through the units.
Because RDC is a private dance centre, you can choose to do as much or as little as you can afford. Payments are split over the year into easy to manage instalments, meaning the course is accessible for all.
What prior experience do I need?
An intermediate exam in the genre you wish to study is extremely useful, but if you have yet to pass that, RDC can help.

How long is the course?
As the course is designed specifically for you as an individual, you can choose to take up to 5 years after the time of registering with the ISTD.
The course is part-time and usually takes between 2-5 years, but can be completed quicker depending on your knowledge and how quickly you choose to progress through the units.

What genres can I study?
You can choose to train to become a teacher in ISTD Imperial Ballet, Modern Theatre and Tap Dance. Depending on your needs, you can study in 1, 2 or all 3 of these genres.
RDC also offers training to pass the Intermediate, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 examinations.
All classes can be group lessons, or you can request to be taught 1-1
